A State of Title Certificate (STC) is a certified copy of a land title that is processed by LTSA staff. State of Title Certificates can be received electronically or can be delivered via Canada Post unless you arrange for someone with behind-the-counter privileges to collect the certificate from the land title office.

LTSA staff are not able to notify customers or couriers by telephone, nor make any STC delivery arrangements.

Ordering State of Title Certificates

From any page of the LTSA's Electronic Services, rollover Other Requests and click Order State of Title Certificate

Enter up to 15 alphanumeric characters in the File Reference field to uniquely identify your transaction. See: Using a File Reference. Depending on your organization's account management setting for file reference, this may be a required field.

Enter the registered or pending title number

  • Requests using a registered title number are processed without delay
  • If you want a State of Title Certificate for a pending title, the system will wait until the pending title is registered, and then produce a State of Title Certificate for the newly registered title

Always use the Title Number field for current or pending title numbers. Do not enter title numbers in the Relate to Pending Number field (see below). Pending Numbers such as a Change of Address and Freehold Transfer which create a new Title Number should be entered in the Title Number field.

Enter a pending number in the field if you want to postpone the request until some action takes place. Enter the pending document number as it appears on the screen without leading zeroes, not as it appears machine-stamped on the paper document (e.g., enter KP4567 rather than KP004567). Do not enter title numbers in this field.

For example, if you want to wait until a pending mortgage is registered before processing the State of Title Certificate, key in the mortgage document number. The system will delay processing your request until the specified number is registered.

Optionally, enter the Land Title Office Client Number if you are requesting a State of Title Certificate on behalf of a third party. This number overrides the organization and mailing address fields.

To verify the organization's information and mailing address associated with the Land Title Office Client Number, click Preview Order Details prior to purchasing the State of Title Certificate.

Enter or modify information in the Name and Address fields

Select the delivery method of receiving the State of Title Certificate by Electronic, Regular Mail or by Pick up.

  • If Electronic is selected, State of Title Certificates for registered titles may take up to 5 minutes to be delivered to your myLTSA Inbox and email depending on your forwarding options.
  • If Pick up is selected, also specify the name of the person or agency with "behind-the-counter" privileges who is picking up the order in the Pick Up By field.

Electronic delivery is the default method for sending a State of Title Certificate.
